$6.9M to fund street repairs, parks, facilities improvements
The City Council on Monday approved the final issuance of $16.4 million General Obligation Bond approved by voters in August 2020.
The council voted to approve a resolution relating to the issuance of G.O. Bonds to provide $6.9 million in funding for projects approved in the election. The first tranche of $9.5 million was issued in June 2022.
“This issuance will close out our 2020 General Obligation Bond Issue and will provide the funding necessary to complete the remaining projects that were approved by voters in the election,” said City Manager Mike Bailey. “All of the remaining projects in this issue are in one stage of completion or another, either in planning or actual construction. Staff will continue to work to see them through to completion.”
Projects and equipment scheduled for this tranche of funding include:

- Firehouse software replacement
- Central Fire Station roof replacement (old portion)
- Replace roof at fire stations No. 3 and No. 4
- Operations server room generator
$1,083,000 Municipal Facilities
- City Hall window replacement
- Equipment shed
- Library skylight replacement
- Library chiller replacement
- Purchase equipment – paint striper and front-mount mowers (4)
$4,244,000 Streets & Bridges
- Yale asphalt rebuild (Adams to Frank Phillips)
- Wilshire and Waverly concrete panel rehab (Frank Phillips to State)
- Oakdale concrete panel rehab (Brookside Parkway to Woodland)
- Braddock asphalt mill and overlay (Claremont to Camelot)
- Highland concrete panel with mill and overlay (Sunset to Aledo)
- Dewey asphalt mill and overlay (Adams to 16th Street)
- Indiana, Morningside, Roselawn and Katherine asphalt overlay (Interurban to Indiana)
- Southport asphalt mill and overlay (Quarry Park to Clipper Court)
- Quail Ridge asphalt mill and overlay (Adams to Baylor)
- Madison asphalt overlay (Tuxedo Boulevard to water tower)
- Cambridge asphalt mill and overlay (Rice Creek to Williamsburg)

Sale of the bonds is set for Nov. 20. It is anticipated the City will receive the funds by the end of the year. The first issuance of the 2023 G.O. Bond Issue, approved by voters in an Oct. 10 election, will likely occur summer 2024.
