The Bartlesville Farmers Market is getting ready for the Spring/Summer season, moving from its former location near The Depot, in the 200 block of South Keeler Avenue, to the new Johnstone Pavilion, located near the south entrance to Johnstone Park, on Hensley Boulevard just west of Cherokee Avenue.
Construction of the pavilion, as well as the surrounding amenities, is a multi-phase City of Bartlesville project that is funded by federal dollars administered through Oklahoma’s Community Development Block Grant Small Cities Set Aside program and matching City funds. Phase 2 of the project just wrapped up and Phase 3 is set to begin. A contract for work on Phase 3, which includes additional concrete work, a brick plaza near the pavilion and a sidewalk along Cherokee, Hensley, Osage and First Street, is expected to be considered by the Bartlesville City Council next month.
The Bartlesville Farmers Market will be one of the first groups to utilize the 6,000 square foot, open-sided facility. The market will continue its regular hours of 8-11:30 a.m. every Saturday, beginning May 6 through mid-October.
The market will kick off the new season with a vendor’s meeting, set for 6:30 p.m. on April 6 at the pavilion. Regular and prospective vendors are encouraged to attend, market President Mike Melton said this week.
“We’ll go over several things, and the vendors will get their booth assignments at the meeting,” he said.
The pavilion is available for community events and rentals, and the Farmers Market was among the first in line.
“This is going to be a phenomenal place for us to have the farmers market this summer — much easier set-up for the vendors and lots of space for our customers and visitors to walk around and visit and look at all the vendors have to offer,” Melton said via the BFM website.
