The skylights at Bartlesville Public Library will be replaced this summer thanks to a vote from the City Council on Monday. The council approved a bid award to Burgess Company in the amount of $112,060 to complete the project.
“The original skylight system was installed in 1993 when the library was first built, and is now on its 31st year of service,” said Engineering Project Manager Shelley Charles. “Twenty-five years is the average life expectancy for this type of system, with proper maintenance, so replacement is past due.”
Charles said the new skylight panels will be the same type and color as originally installed, but will appear much brighter because the existing panels are discolored from aging.
Construction is estimated to begin around the end of July, after the shop drawings have been prepared and fabrication has been completed. Parking spaces will be made available to the contractor for staging of materials during the brief, approximately one-to-two-week period of on-site construction work.
