Frontier and Sooner pools are closed for the season, but City-owned splash pads in Sooner and Johnstone parks will remain open until the weather shifts — usually in late summer or early fall.
“We try to keep the splash pads open for as long as we can,” said Public Works Director Keith Henry. “We’ll close them for the season once temperatures drop consistently enough to warrant it. Then we’ll winterize them and reopen once it’s warm enough, in the spring/summer.”
The City-owned Frontier and Sooner pools are operated and managed by the Richard Kane YMCA. The YMCA hires seasonal staff for the pools, including lifeguards, who are typically students. The pools are closed when students resume classes and staffing is no longer available.
