Portion of Pathfinder to close for upcoming construction

August 13, 2024

A section of Pathfinder Parkway will close later this month as construction begins on planned improvements to trail, which winds through city neighborhoods and connects the city’s major parks.

A portion of Pathfinder between the Shawnee Trailhead (near the high school) and Polaris Park (the tunnel under Silver Lake Road) will close beginning Aug. 19.

This portion of the project includes replacing a drainage structure in a washed-out area (near the “frog pond”) southeast of the Shawnee Trailhead. The trail will be closed at the work area with signage at the Shawnee and Polaris trailheads advising that the trail ahead will dead end.

The Pathfinder improvement project is a priority project approved by voters in the 2018 and 2020 General Obligation Bond elections.

The work in this area is anticipated to be complete in early November, depending on weather.

Additional temporary trail closures are expected as the project moves to other locations that will undergo reconstruction, including:

  • Near Silver Lake Road and Polaris Drive
  • Robinwood Park, through the bird sanctuary
  • North of Adams Boulevard (near the RV park)
  • Near Adams Boulevard and Quapaw Avenue
  • Between Johnstone Park and Tuxedo Bridge at Caney River
  • Path around Douglass Park, located at 509 S.W. Bucy Ave.

The $879,220 construction contract was awarded to KSL Dirtworks LLC earlier this summer.
